{"id":19487,"date":"2018-02-23T18:57:31","date_gmt":"2018-02-23T18:57:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/watchmanmedia.org\/?p=19487"},"modified":"2018-04-12T19:17:37","modified_gmt":"2018-04-12T19:17:37","slug":"a-story-of-redemption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchmanmedia.org\/?p=19487","title":{"rendered":"A Story of Redemption"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19489\" src=\"https:\/\/watchmanmedia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/REVIVAL-345678.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"890\" height=\"556\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watchmanmedia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/REVIVAL-345678.jpg 890w, https:\/\/watchmanmedia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/REVIVAL-345678-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/watchmanmedia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/REVIVAL-345678-768x480.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 890px) 100vw, 890px\" \/><\/h4>\n<h4>Abortion, Infidelity and Finding Jesus: The \u2018Duck Dynasty\u2019 Redemption Story You\u2019ve Never Heard<\/h4>\n<p>Listen to \u201cDuck Dynasty\u201d star Missy Robertson speak with her sister-in-law, Lisa Robertson, about her intensely personal history \u2014 and her incredible story of overcoming the odds:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/cbn.com\/tv\/embedplayer.aspx?bcid=3977823746001\" width=\"900\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Robertsons of \u201cDuck Dynasty\u201d fame are surely one of America\u2019s most revered families.<\/p>\n<p>Beloved for their traditional values and faithful demeanor, scores of adoring followers enjoy the family\u2019s perspective on life, parenting and a slew of other contemporary issues.<\/p>\n<p>But the Robertsons have long been clear that they, like everyone else, aren\u2019t perfect, using their past experiences \u2014 both good and bad \u2014 to help encourage people who might be facing hardship or difficult life circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>Missy Robertson recently sat down with her sister-in-law Lisa Robertson for the latest episode of \u201cThe Overcomers\u201d podcast to have a raw and honest discussion about Lisa\u2019s harrowing life story, personal failings and tough-to-navigate fractures within their family.<\/p>\n<p>Up until now, Missy Robertson\u2019s \u201cOvercomers\u201d podcast has focused on the stories of women who have overcome difficult life circumstances such as drug abuse and trafficking, but in the final two episodes of season one, her interviews turn to her own family members, with Robertson opening by explaining why she invited Lisa on her show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I think of an overcomer, I think of my sister-in-law, Lisa,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>And once Lisa started to explain the abuse she experienced as a child and the rocky road that followed, it became evident why Missy included her. Lisa explained that she started going down the wrong path in life after a series of disappointments in her teen years, including initial road bumps in her dating relationship with now-husband Al Robertson; as teens, the two lost contact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started trying to find the love that I had lost from him through other guys, through sex, through drugs, alcohol \u2014 it didn\u2019t matter,\u201d she said. \u201cI was hurting and I couldn\u2019t find anything to numb the pain. I would wake up in places and didn\u2019t really know how I got there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then, at age 16, Lisa became pregnant \u2014 and had an abortion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The father] wanted to have the baby but I had nobody to talk to,\u201d she said, noting that her parents told her that the only option she had is \u201cto have an abortion.\u201d Looking back, she believes that they, like so many others, had been deceived about what abortion truly entails.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they believed the lie, the lie that it\u2019s not a baby, it\u2019s a blob of tissue and until that baby is born it\u2019s not really a life,\u201d Lisa said. \u201cBecause I just don\u2019t believe that my mom and dad would have wanted to snuff out a grandchild.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She, too, was sold a number of lies about abortion and eventually went through with it, with doctors telling her that it would be akin to taking out something that she didn\u2019t really need, and that she wasn\u2019t really killing anything, because there was \u2014 according to them \u2014 no life in her womb.<\/p>\n<p>Decades later, though, the pain persists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that I\u2019m forgiven. God has healed my heart, but you never get rid of that regret,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s a choice that you made.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Lisa made that decision, her life spiraled out of control, as she explained that she would leave her house and wouldn\u2019t come home for two or three days. Eventually, though, the partying subsided when she reconnected with Al Robertson and they married.<\/p>\n<p>Despite their love for one another, their marriage eventually hit some roadblocks, which included an emotional affair that Lisa found herself in. The couple resolved the issue, but Alan made it clear that he would divorce his wife if anything like it ever happened again.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, just five years later, Lisa had a much more serious affair, one that rocked the Robertson family and threatened to end her marriage entirely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had an affair, a full-blown affair and it lasted for 14 months,\u201d she said, noting that living a double life was \u201chell.\u201d \u201cThe guilt was so overwhelming.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Missy, too, noted that it was a difficult time and that she and other family members could sense that something wasn\u2019t quite right. She explained, \u201cWe were close as a family. We were like, \u2018Lisa\u2019s acting different.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, she never expected that it might be an affair. And, once the family learned what had happened, Missy said that it impacted her relationship with Jase.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt affected mine and Jase\u2019s relationship in a way that I didn\u2019t expect, because when Lisa did that, then all women were bad, all women couldn\u2019t be trusted,\u201d she said. \u201cI had to live through a lot of jealousy and questions with Jase.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She continued, \u201cIt was almost devastating to the family \u2026 it hurt all of us so bad, because we felt duped.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Robertsons felt that Alan had every legal and biblical right to leave Lisa, but the couple decided to power through and seek healing.
