{"id":12281,"date":"2015-07-01T16:13:03","date_gmt":"2015-07-01T16:13:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.watchmanmedia.org\/?p=12281"},"modified":"2016-08-11T19:35:25","modified_gmt":"2016-08-11T19:35:25","slug":"alveda-king-must-obey-gods-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/watchmanmedia.org\/?p=12281","title":{"rendered":"Alveda King: &#8216;I Must Obey God&#8217;s Law&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15151\" src=\"https:\/\/watchmanmedia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/alveda.king-1234.jpg\" alt=\"alveda.king 1234\" width=\"781\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/watchmanmedia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/alveda.king-1234.jpg 781w, https:\/\/watchmanmedia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/alveda.king-1234-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/watchmanmedia.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/alveda.king-1234-768x434.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 781px) 100vw, 781px\" \/>Alveda King has grown accustomed to her life as \u201cthe other King\u201d so it should come as no surprise that she holds a view of marriage that conflicts with the official statements coming out of the NAACP and the King Center.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The author of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/King-Rules-Truths-Family-Prosper\/dp\/140020500X\/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1435434332&amp;sr=1-1&amp;keywords=king+rules\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cKing Rules: Ten Truths for You, Your Family, and Our Nation to Prosper,\u201d<\/a><\/span> director of African-American Outreach for Priests for Life and a Fox News contributor, believes the left has hijacked the institution of marriage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She says they\u2019ve repackaged it with nice-sounding language and sold it to the American people under a false paradigm. As Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz explain it, \u201clove won\u201d in Friday\u2019s Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage. Their allies in the LGBT movement have repeatedly asked \u201chow can love be unconstitutional?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Whether deliberate or not, that just serves to confuse the issue, says the 64-year-old niece of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cLove is not the problem. You can love who you want. It\u2019s the sex that is the problem. Sex is not the same as love. People get that mixed up even in marriage,\u201d King said in an interview with WND.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sex should be part of that marriage union as that is where children come from. Of course all the models we have today are broken. But that was the design. We have people all confused. How it got mixed up is a long story I can\u2019t go into here. It would take days, but we have a lot of teaching to do on this issue.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alveda King\u2019s father was A.D. King, the younger brother of Martin Luther King Jr. She believes she is being true to their beliefs on biblical marriage. While still a member of the NAACP, she has said in the past that she believes it\u2019s a mistake to place the LGBT community in the same category with blacks in the civil rights movement and that her uncle would never have approved of doing this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u2018Go Back to the Beginning\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She said pastors need to go back to the beginning, starting with Genesis, and teach about God\u2019s plan for marriage. \u201cParents and families need to be teaching it too,\u201d she said. \u201cSexual abuse and improper touching was the problem when I was young but now the confusion is with who can marry who.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She said America has lost God\u2019s perspective on the issue of marriage and that\u2019s why the U.S. Supreme Court was able to get away with ruling the way it did. Years of wrong teaching, or no teaching, preceded the ruling. Now, she says, it\u2019s time to start from scratch and lay the foundation all over again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSo what we need to look at is, go back to the beginning and the purpose of marriage and family and human sexuality and how we can fix what got broken,\u201d King told WND.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI believe when we began to abandon the Creator and the original plan, the original blueprint, and we began to go toward human design, that\u2019s when the problems began to occur. When you don\u2019t know the purpose of a thing \u2014 why and how something was designed \u2014 you will abuse it. And so we\u2019re getting away from the original plan and the original design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Common Law vs. Natural Law<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Confusion also reigns in deciphering the difference between common law and natural law, said King, who served two terms in the Georgia House in the early 1980s and still lives in Atlanta.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSo the Supreme Court, they\u2019re looking at the common law and man\u2019s design, but the natural law is God\u2019s law and God\u2019s design, and natural law will line up with that. So to me theirs was a common law decision,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Like hundreds of other American pastors, King says she will not obey or acknowledge the high court\u2019s ruling.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI must obey God\u2019s law, I am bound to do that, and of course my uncle Dr. King, my grandfather daddy King, many of my brothers and sisters in the clergy \u2026most of us have made a commitment to follow God\u2019s law. Do we mess up sometimes? Yes, and we can know that our Lord will be there to forgive us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Everyone will be \u201cheld accountable\u201d in the end, she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cEvery Christian, everyone, you don\u2019t have to be a Christian, will stand before God in the final judgment, but my Lord Jesus said \u2018no one comes to the father except by me,\u2019 and I can expect mercy from my Father, that is the Christian perspective. We will stand before God but we will have an advocate. Only the atheist says there is no God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The other mistake that many make, said King, a minister and author of several books on spiritual topics, is to misinterpret the nature of God.<br \/>\nGod is love, but that\u2019s not all God is.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe fullness of God is mercy and judgment and they both exist in the final reality,\u201d King said. \u201cWe don\u2019t model that well as Christians. I believe as Christians, and in the year 1983 I was born again and decided to follow God and serve God, I became very transparent about my mistakes \u2014 alcoholism, fornication, abortion. Before being born again I thought those things were OK, and now that I know they\u2019re not OK I will speak of the liberty and the joy that I have from not having to hide from my sins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">King has had two abortions and three husbands but later went on to become a leader in the pro-life movement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cEven with my children, when I first told them about things that didn\u2019t work for me, we had to pray and do a lot of healing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019ve been divorced three times. And even today I don\u2019t partake of alcohol, I may have half a glass or at communion, because I know I was an alcoholic. So when my children and I speak candidly they\u2019re ready to avoid some of the pitfalls that I experienced.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou have to show the transformation. I used to be like this and now I\u2019m not and how did I get to that \u2018not\u2019?\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Identifying the \u2018author of confusion\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As a licensed, ordained minister and an evangelist, Alveda King said she would not preside over a same-sex wedding. But neither does she marry many who wish to say traditional vows, she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI have such an extensive program that I have to put you through, they keep coming to me but they tend to drop out before we get to the altar,\u201d she said with a chuckle. \u201cI don\u2019t want them to go through what I went through (with divorce).\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She said \u201clove is never a problem, it\u2019s the sex that\u2019s the problem. They hijacked love. It\u2019s just confusion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And the Bible clearly identifies the \u201cauthor of confusion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIt\u2019s the devil. But we have to be watchful in our responses and not be hateful.
