The central message, calling the West to remember their Christian Biblical heritage<\/a> <\/span>and turn to the Lord in repentance<\/a><\/span>, is even more urgent today.<\/p>\n

The Bible talks about watchmen<\/a><\/span> who stand on the walls of a city, day and night, to warn the inhabitants of danger. In Ezekiel 33:6-9, God tells Ezekiel that he has been appointed as a watchman:<\/p>\n

If you see the sword coming and don\u2019t blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone\u2019s life, that person\u2019s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold you (the watchman) accountable for their blood.\u2019 But if you warn them, there is no more responsibility on you \u2013 they will pay for it with their own blood.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Habakkuk<\/span><\/a> was also a prophet called to minister to God\u2019s people at a crucial time in the history of the nation of Judah. The Babylonian empire was growing and threatening to engulf the entire neighbouring states of the Middle East, including Judah. Habakkuk seeks God.<\/span><\/p>\n

I will stand upon my post of observation and station myself on the tower or fortress, and will watch to see what He will say within me and what answer I will make as His mouthpiece to the perplexities of my complaint against Him (Habakkuk 2:1).<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He complains that he called on the Lord and yet the Lord has not responded. He has cried out concerning the violence and destruction coming upon the land; the strife and the conflict that he sees.\u00a0 He tells God how all Israel\u2019s laws are paralysed <\/span>because the wicked pervert justice all the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Lord replies that he is raising up the Babylonian empire against his people to bring judgement on them. Habakkuk\u2019s reply is that this is hardly fair because Babylon is even more wicked than God\u2019s people. The Lord, however, had no intention of ignoring the sins of Babylon. It is just that judgement begins with the household of God and the just shall live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4).
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Habakkuk took his station on the ramparts; he was a watchman, alert to what God was doing, questioning the Lord and receiving revelation about the times in which he lived. Like him we need to be taking up our positions, watching what God is doing among the nations and praying according to His revealed will.<\/span><\/p>\n

Servants of Christ, set, as watchmen are to sound the trumpet and cry unto God day and night.<\/span> Because of the impending distress<\/a><\/span> now settling in, constant prayer and intercession should be a normal part of our daily walk with the Lord.<\/p>\n
