The Choice is Between Freedom and Slavery

Borking: “to attack or defeat (a nominee or candidate for public office) unfairly through an organized campaign of harsh public criticism or vilification” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).

At the peak of his presidential power, the populist conservative Ronald Reagan moved to solidify his legacy through the nomination of legal scholar Robert Bork to the United States Supreme Court. A staunch constitutional originalist and defender of natural law, Judge Bork represented the greatest threat to the global leftist elites since Reagan himself had snatched the GOP presidential nomination from their man George H.W. Bush.

The globalist campaign to block Bork’s confirmation by the U.S. Senate through a massive blitzkreig of public vilification (i.e., “borking”) has ever since defined the phenomenon of “total war” in the political context.

While there have been numerous examples of candidate borking by the global elites since the Reagan years, none has surpassed the campaign against Robert Bork himself – until Donald Trump snatched the GOP presidential nomination from their man Jeb “low energy” Bush in 2016. Since then the vilification of Mr. Trump has reached at least two levels of magnitude higher on the political Richter Scale than the earthquake that toppled Bork, though Trump remains standing and retains a realistic chance of winning the presidency.

Trump’s astonishing survival in the face of unprecedented assault has struck terror into the hearts of the elites, as evidenced by their current level of desperation. Pat Buchanan correctly noted recently that Big Media is the power that sustains the forces of globalism.

I will go further and say that Big Media is the Praetorian Guard of the New World Order whose greatest weapon against populist rebellion has been its pretense of neutrality in the fulfillment of its self-defined role as interpreter of reality for the public.

Yet fear of a Trump victory (compounded by WikiLeaks’ daily release of evidence impeaching Clinton and her surrogates) has produced such frantic and open collusion with the Clinton campaign that Big Media has morphed into Big Hillary in full view of the American public and the world.

This all might seem like good news to populists and conservatives around the world if we focus only on the fact that the puppet masters are being exposed – but what is also exposed is the extent to which these dark-hearted elites crave power over the rest of us and a glimpse at the extremes they will go to preserve it.

The hyper-borking of Donald Trump has implications far beyond the American presidency. In my view it is evidence that the globalists have gone to DEFCON 1, and the next step could be actual war. It is not mere coincidence that America and British war drums are building an ever louder case for war with Russia in parallel with the Trump v. Clinton election.

The ostensible rationale for their chest-beating is Syria, but I believe the real reason is Brexit, compounded by the shocking durability of the Trump candidacy and its emboldening of populists worldwide, portending a future total meltdown of globalist control under a Trump administration.

The last resort of the puppet masters is likely to be orchestrated global chaos, probably through war, economic collapse, or both, providing a justification for the implementation of police-state strategies and tactics.

This was my prediction at a Christian conservative debriefing session in Central London the day after the Brexit vote, and I reiterate it today. Frankly, I think that result is virtually inevitable, regardless of who wins the presidency, because the genie of anti-globalist rebellion is now out of the bottle. What can we do about it? Keep fighting!

The all-important difference between the campaign to destroy Robert Bork and the campaign to destroy Donald Trump is that the people making the final decision are not the members of the U.S. Senate, but the American voters. Are we really going to allow the puppet masters and the corrupt leftist media manipulate us into letting Hillary Clinton have control of not just the White House, but the Supreme Court, the U.S. military, NATO and the United Nations?

Are we going to vindicate the borking of Donald Trump by the same people who have destroyed so many Christian lives, careers and ministry efforts through the same despicable tactics? Are we really going to come this close to overthrowing the GOP establishment, the mainstream media, the European Union interlopers, the demons of the Democratic Party machine and the iron grip of the globalists and just surrender because (unlike you and me) Donald Trump has moral flaws?

Looking at the big picture, our choice is really not between Trump and Clinton. It is between freedom and slavery. As someone who himself has suffered more than my share of borking, I choose freedom.

The Decline of a Nation

Even if Clinton or Trump wins, the regime has been exposed to the core. America’s problems are spiritual. And Jesus Christ and His rule are America’s only hope.

Here is an article that describes how all declines of nations are due to spiritual factors.  It was written by Kerby Anderson 25 years ago!

Introduction

Doomsayers for many years have been predicting the decline and fall of this country. And while many of these short-term predictions have proved inaccurate, there is some truth to the prevailing belief that this nation will fall like every great nation before it. Apart from revival and reformation, this nation is destined to decline.

The problem with many of these doomsayers is that while their prognosis is right, their diagnosis is wrong. Yes, the future is bleak. But our problem is not ultimately political, economic, or social, as these doomsayers would have us believe. The decline of this nation (just as the decline of every other nation) is due to spiritual factors. The political, economic, and social problems we encounter are the symptoms of the spiritual deterioration of a nation.

Just as there are spiritual principles that influence the life of an individual, so there are political-spiritual principles that govern the life of a nation. And though we may feel that these are obscure and difficult to discern, in reality they are visible to anyone willing to look at the record of history.

Our problem is that we don’t really learn from history. George Santayana said that “those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.” The philosopher Hegel said, “What experience and history teach us is this: that people and government never have learned anything from history or acted on principles deduced from it.” Or as Winston Churchill said, “The one thing we have learned from history is that we don’t learn from history.”

The refrains that are often heard are: “It can’t happen here,” or “Our country is different.” But the reality is that nations are born and die just like individuals. Their longevity may exceed the average person’s lifespan. But the reality is that nations also die.

History has shown that the average age of the great civilizations is around two hundred years. Countries like Great Britain exceed the average while other countries like the United States are just now reaching the average age.

Each of the great civilizations in the world passed through a series of stages from their birth to their decline to their death. Historians have listed these in ten stages.

The first stage moves from bondage to spiritual faith. The second from spiritual faith to great courage. The third stage moves from great courage to liberty. The fourth stage moves from liberty to abundance. The fifth stage moves from abundance to selfishness. The sixth stage moves from selfishness to complacency. The seventh stage moves from complacency to apathy. The eighth stage moves from apathy to moral decay. The ninth stage moves from moral decay to dependence. And the tenth and last stage moves from dependence to bondage.

These are the ten stages through which the great civilizations have gone. Notice the progression from bondage to liberty back to bondage. The first generation throws off the shackles of bondage only to have a later generation through apathy and indifference allow itself to once again be enslaved.

This is the direction this and every other country is headed. The book of Judges shows that the nation of Israel passed through these same stages. And this country will do the same unless revival and reformation break out and reverse the inexorable decline of this nation.

The Cycle of Nations

In his book The End of Christendom, Malcolm Muggeridge makes this powerful observation. He says:

I conclude that civilizations, like every other human creation, wax and wane. By the nature of the case there can never be a lasting civilization anymore than there can be a lasting spring or lasting happiness in an individual life or a lasting stability in a society. It’s in the nature of man and of all that he constructs to perish, and it must ever be so. The world is full of the debris of past civilizations and others are known to have existed which have not left any debris behind them but have just disappeared.

He goes on to say that

…whatever their ideology may be, from the Garden of Eden onwards such dreams of lasting felicity have cropped up and no doubt always will. But the realization is impossible for the simple reason that a fallen creature like man though capable of conceiving perfection and aspiring after it, is in himself and in his works forever imperfect. Thus he is fated to exist in the no man’s land between the perfection he can conceive and the imperfection that characterizes his own nature and everything he does.

Nations rise and nations fall. Every nation has followed this progression from bondage to bondage. The nations of this century will be no different. But let us not accept the Marxist notion that these are fixed and intractable laws of history. Christians can point to unusual times when revival has redirected the inexorable decline of a civilization. In the Old Testament, Jonah saw revival postpone God’s judgment of Nineveh. In the sixteenth century, Martin Luther and John Calvin saw a Protestant Reformation transform Europe. And even in the history of the United States the First and Second Great Awakenings changed individuals and our society.

But apart from God’s intervention, nations will decline and eventually pass off the scene. Much of the Old Testament records the history of the nation of Israel. It passed through these same stages and so will every country in the world.

As Christians we must recognize that nations will rise and fall just as individuals will be born and die. Our civilization will not last indefinitely, but will eventually pass off the scene. Only God’s Word endures forever. We should not put our trust in the things of this world for they are destined for destruction. Instead, we should put our faith in God and His word.

The Decline of the Family

Nations most often fall from within, and this fall is usually due to a decline in the moral and spiritual values in the family. As families go, so goes a nation.

This has been the main premise of thinkers from British historian J. D. Unwin to Russian sociologist Pitirim Sorokin who have studied civilizations that have collapsed.

In his book Our Dance Has Turned to Death, Carl Wilson identifies the common pattern of family decline in ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. Notice how these seven stages parallel what is happening in our nation today. In the first stage, men ceased to lead their families in worship. Spiritual and moral development became secondary. Their view of God became naturalistic, mathematical, and mechanical.

In the second stage, men selfishly neglected care of their wives and children to pursue material wealth, political and military power, and cultural development. Material values began to dominate thought, and the man began to exalt his own role as an individual. The third stage involved a change in men’s sexual values.

Men who were preoccupied with business or war either neglected their wives sexually or became involved with lower-class women or with homosexuality. Ultimately, a double standard of morality developed.

The fourth stage affected women. The role of women at home and with children lost value and status. Women were neglected and their roles devalued. Soon they revolted to gain access to material wealth and also freedom for sex outside marriage. Women also began to minimize having sex relations to conceive children, and the emphasis became sex for pleasure. Marriage laws were changed to make divorce easy.

In the fifth stage, husbands and wives competed against each other for money, home leadership, and the affection of their children. This resulted in hostility and frustration and possible homosexuality in the children. Many marriages ended in separation and divorce.

Many children were unwanted, aborted, abandoned, molested, and undisciplined. The more undisciplined children became, the more social pressure there was not to have children. The breakdown of the home produced anarchy.

In the sixth stage, selfish individualism grew and carried over into society, fragmenting it into smaller and smaller group loyalties. The nation was thus weakened by internal conflict. The decrease in the birthrate produced an older population that had less ability to defend itself and less will to do so, making the nation more vulnerable to its enemies.

Finally, unbelief in God became more complete, parental authority diminished, and ethical and moral principles disappeared, affecting the economy and government. Thus, by internal weakness and fragmentation the societies came apart. There was no way to save them except by a dictator who arose from within or by barbarians who invaded from without.

Although this is an ancient pattern of decline found in Greece and Rome, it is relevant today. Families are the foundation of a nation. When the family crumbles, the nation falls because nations are built upon family units. They are the true driving social force. A nation will not be strong unless the family is strong. That was true in the ancient world and it is true today.

Social commentator Michael Novak, writing on the importance of the family, said:

One unforgettable law has been learned through all the disasters and injustices of the last thousand years: If things go well with the family, life is worth living; when the family falters, life falls apart.

The Decline of Values

There are many factors in the decline of a nation. Certainly a major one is the breakdown of the family. But another potent but less perceptible force is the power of ideas.

False ideas are bringing about the decline of western culture. Carl F. H. Henry, in his book Twilight of a Great Civilization, says:

There is a new barbarism. This barbarism has embraced a new pagan mentality . . . not simply rejecting the legacy of the West, but embracing a new pagan mentality where there is no fixed truth.

Today we live in a world where biblical absolutes are ignored, and unless we return to these biblical truths, our nation will continue to decline.

To understand how we have arrived at this appalling situation, we need to go back a century and look at the influence of five intellectual leaders who still profoundly affect the modern world.

The first person is Charles Darwin (1809-1882). In 1859 he published The Origin of Species and later published The Descent of Man. His writings blurred the distinction between humans and animals since he taught that we are merely part of an evolutionary progression from lower forms of life. Darwinism, as it came to be called, not only affected the field of biology, but became the foundation for the fields of anthropology, sociology, and psychology.

The second person is Karl Marx (1818-1883). He and Friedrich Engels published the Communist Manifesto around 1850, and Marx devoted his life to writing about the demise of capitalism and coming of communism. He understood the importance of ideas.

Marx once wrote: “Give me twenty-six lead soldiers and I will conquer the world.” (So did Benjamin Franklin.) The twenty-six lead soldiers are the keys on a typewriter. The pervasive influence of communism in the world today is testimony to the truthfulness of his statement.

The third person is Julius Wellhausen (1844-1918). Although he may not be as well known as the other two men mentioned, his influence was just as profound. He was a German Bible scholar whose theory on the dating of the Pentateuch completely transformed Old Testament studies.

Wellhausen argued that the early books of the Bible were not put together by Moses but were gathered together many centuries later by several different men called redactors who wove various strands together. He and his disciples established an anti-supernatural approach to the scriptures which is influential in most denominational seminaries today.

The fourth person is Sigmund Freud (1856-1939). He merely took the logical implications of what Darwin was doing in biology and applied them to what today is known as psychology and psychiatry. Freud argued that humans are basically autonomous and therefore do not need to know God. Instead, we need to know and understand ourselves since our problems stem from those secret things that have evolved in our lives from our past.

A fifth person is John Dewey (1859-1952). He is the founder of modern education and published his first work, The School and Society, in 1899. John Dewey was also one of the co-signers of the Humanist Manifesto in 1933.

Dewey, like Darwin and Freud, believed that humans are autonomous. They don’t need to have an authority above them but can evolve their our own system of education. Thus the very foundation of modern education is anti-supernatural.

Ideas have consequences, and false ideas can bring down a nation. The theories of these five men are having devastating consequences in our nation and world. Unless we return to biblical absolutes, our nation will continue its decline.

Spiritual Decline

The decline and fall of nations is usually due to internal factors rather than external threats. Even though some may have fallen to barbarians, their demise ultimately came because of moral and spiritual weakness which manifested itself as military weakness.

Historians have listed the stages in the decline of a nation. These should not be too surprising to any student of the Old Testament. The stages of decline parallel the stages through which the nation of Israel passed.

But neither should they surprise a student of the New Testament. In the opening chapter of the Apostle Paul’s letter to the church in Rome, he traces a similar progression. In fact, Romans 1 shows the decline of a civilization from a societal perspective. Looking at the Hellenistic world of his time, he reflects on the progression of sin in a nation.

The first stage is when people turn from God to idolatry. Although God has revealed Himself in nature to all men so that they are without excuse, they nevertheless worship the creation instead of the Creator. This is idolatry. In the past, this took the form of actual idol worship.

In our day, it takes the form of the worship of money or the worship of self. In either case, it is idolatry. A further example of this is a general lack of thankfulness. Although they have been prospered by God, they are ungrateful. And when they are no longer looking to God for wisdom and guidance, they become vain and futile and empty in their imaginations. They no longer honor God, so their foolish hearts become darkened. In professing to be wise, they have become fools.

The second stage is when men and women exchange their natural use of sex for unnatural uses. Here the Apostle Paul says those four sobering words, “God gave them over.” In a society where lust- driven sensuality and sexual perversion dominate, God gives them over to their degrading passions and unnatural desires. The third stage is anarchy.

Once a society has rejected God’s revelation, it is on its own. Moral and social anarchy is the natural result. At this point God has given the sinners over to a depraved mind and so they do things which are not proper. This results in a society which is without understanding,untrustworthy, unloving, and unmerciful.

The final stage is judgment. God’s judgment rightly falls upon those who practice idolatry and immorality. Certainly an eternal judgment awaits those who are guilty, but a social judgment occurs when God gives a nation over to its sinful practices.

Notice that this progression is not unique to the Hellenistic world the Apostle Paul was living in. The progression from idolatry to sexual perversion to anarchy to judgment is found throughout history.

In the times of Noah and Lot, there was the idolatry of greed, there was sexual perversion and promiscuity, there was anarchy and violence, and finally there was judgment. Throughout the history of the nation of Israel there was idolatry, sexual perversion, anarchy (in which each person did what was right in his own eyes), and finally judgment.

This progression happened throughout the Bible and to Greece, to Persia, to Babylon, and to Rome. And if it happened to these nations, then it can happen today.Unless we return to God’s principles, decline and destruction are inevitable.

Frightening Visions of one Man

26020724In June of 1933, a man by the name of William Branham was conducting services in the old Masonic Hall on Meggs Avenue in Jeffersonville, Indiana and experienced what he claimed to be seven Major events that would come to pass before the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. In his testimony, On this June morning, just before he was to preach, this series of Visions appeared to him.

Vision One: He saw in a vision that the dictator of Italy, Benito Mussolini, would invade Ethiopia and according to the voice speaking to him, Ethiopia “would fall at his (Mussolini’s) steps”. However, the voice continued and prophesied a dread end of the dictator, for he would have a horrible death and his own people would literally spit on him.

Vision Two: The next vision indicated America would be drawn into a world war against Germany which would be headed up by the Austrian, Adolph Hitler. The voice predicted that this terrible war would overthrow Hitler and he would come to a mysterious “end”.

In this vision he was shown the Siegfried line whereat a great toll of American lives would be exacted, but Hitler would be defeated. It might be well to mention here that a subsequent vision relative to this war predicted that President Roosevelt would declare war against Germany and in so doing would eventually be elected for a fourth term.

Vision Three: The third part of the vision showed that though there were three ISMS, Fascism, Nazism, Communism in the world: that the first two would come to nothing but that Communism would flourish. The voice admonished him to keep his eyes on “Russia” concerning future involvements, for Fascism and Nazism would end up in Communism.

Vision Four: The fourth vision that appeared to him was one in which there was predicted to be tremendous technological advances right after the war. This was symbolized by an egg-shaped car with a plastic bubble roof, going down beautiful highways completely under perfect remote control. There was no steering wheel in the car, and the occupants of the car appeared to be playing a game like checkers.

Vision Five: The fifth scene that appeared involved the womanhood of the world. In this scene, there appeared the fast moral decay of women. Starting back when she received her so-called liberty to enter into worldly affairs using the vote, she soon began to wear clothes that were too revealing. She bobbed her hair and adopted the clothing of men. Finally, the vision showed her all but stripped naked, and she merely covered herself with a tiny apron about the size and shape of a fig leaf. With her womanhood so little valued a terrible decay of all flesh came upon the earth and with it perversion even as set forth by the Word of God.

Vision Six: Then there arose in the United States a most beautiful woman clothed in splendor, and great power was given to her. She was lovely of feature, but there was a hardness about her that defied description. Beautiful as she was, she was yet cruel, wicked and cunning. She dominated the land with her authority; she had complete power over the people.

The vision indicated that either such a woman would literally arise or that this woman of the vision was merely a type of an organization which is scripturally characterized by a female. Though the voice did not speak out and reveal who she was, he felt in his heart that this woman represented the rising Roman Catholic Church, and he inserted in parenthesis beside at the end of this vision which he had written out, (perhaps the Catholic church).

Vision Seven: The voice bade him look once more. As he turned and beheld, a great explosion rent the entire land, and left the land of America a smoldering, chaotic ruin. As far as the eye could see, there was naught but craters, smoking piles of debris, and no humanity in sight. The vision then faded away. – Source

At the time of this report, five of the seven visions have come to pass as Braham saw them leaving only two left to come to fruition. Is it possible that Hillary Clinton is the woman that Branham saw in a vision over 80 years ago?

Is Clinton who Branham saw that would come to power over America and be the wicked and cunning leader of the Nation? If so will she be the one who will have complete power over the people? Even more, frightening is that if she is the woman he saw that means the final vision that Branham experienced was America being left in ruins from what appears to be a nuclear war.

Now I will say we cannot take these alleged visions as absolute because the Word of God is the only source that is absolute. However I will say that as I am writing this we are witnessing for the first time in US history a woman who could end up being the first woman President of the United States which was unheard of in the 1930’s and we have Russia now threatening a Nuclear War with the United States which could result in the fulfilment of the final vision.

Only time will tell the accuracy of these visions but if Hillary Clinton clinches the election in November it will make 6 out of 7 visions completed, and it would be wise to be prepared for what may be a nuclear war on US Soil.

America Is Now Facing The Greatest Crisis In History

flag062615America is now facing the greatest crisis in its history, a crisis that could literally unleash a nuclear inferno upon our cities.

This current election is the most critical election since the founding of our nation and it represents two different paths for America’s future based on two fundamentally different worldviews at a time when there are apocalyptic changes in the world such as Russia’s preparation to win World War III in what looks like an imminent conflict involving Russia, Syria, China, the U.S. and NATO.

While America through its corporate-controlled media focuses on peripheral issues regarding the election, Russia has evacuated 40 million Russians to underground bunkers to survive a nuclear war with America.

In addition, the potential of a global financial meltdown increases every day as Europe and its banks face collapse due to serious problems with the Deutsche Bank and the Italian and Greek banks. The American major media, which is controlled by just six corporations, is doing its best to conceal these dangers from the American public and continues to broadcast its three ring circus of sexual scandals to help rig the election.

The media and the elite in both political parties cannot speak about World War III and the real economic crisis because they are totally controlled by the globalist elite. There is never any in-depth or serious coverage or discussion of who is creating these economic problems or wars because they all are directly connected to the globalists.

Basically if you want to keep your job at a cable news network or as one the heads of the Republican Party or Democratic Party, you agree to go along with the globalist program and do not bite the hand that feeds you. Right now the crisis going on in the Republican Party is not really about vulgar sexual remarks…the real divide is between those who are controlled by the globalist elite and those who are not.

Tragically, the American people are in great danger that is being concealed from them as China may go into a major economic crisis which can spread globally. The reality is Russia is leading the move to kill the dollar, which is a “Petrodollar” currency, meaning that until recently all the major nations of the world have agreed to purchase oil in U.S. dollars.

Now Iran and Syria no longer purchase or sell oil with American dollars. Russia’s Putin has executed a strategy to get nations not to use the dollar for oil, and Iran and Syria are selling their oil for gold, and Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa have joined as the BRICS nations. This leaves the Federal Reserve and related European central banks without backing for the dollar.

America is hanging on the edge of a financial cliff with over $22 trillion dollars in debt and $240 trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities. Added to that, American banks have a $1.5 trillion dollar derivatives debt.

Yet the globalist controlled media and politicians hide this overwhelming threat from the average American through nonsensical and cartoon-like news coverage, which censors all serious and in-depth discussion of these all-important issues.

In addition, the elite globalists who control the major American media rig elections through their control of news networks, moderators, and celebrity journalists who will manipulate the debates and news coverage to ask only superficial and diversionary tabloid style questions.

America is now in grave crisis and there must be immediate changes to prevent our nation from sinking like the Titanic. But ultimately it is not the elite globalists, politicians, both political parties, and even the major media who are the root cause of the problem.

Please understand; what I am about to write is not just a cliché, but the reality is America’s root problem is spiritual. The great danger America is facing is not primarily due to the selling out of our nation by the politicians, political parties, media, or corporations but by the prostitution of the Christian church and its leaders.

The churches are the primary institution the Creator who is referred to in our Constitution and Bill of Rights has instituted to protect our nation and its people from walking down the pathways of destruction.

The Church is not merely a human institution, but a spiritual institution which is referred to in the Bible as the Church of Jesus Christ and the Body of Christ. God set up His supernatural Church with spiritual leaders who have been charged with the responsibility of leading, warning, speaking out, acting as “Watchmen on the Wall,” and speaking prophetically to our nation.

However, with few exceptions those who have been charged with this responsibility have been derelict in their spiritual duty. They have chosen to deny reality and abdicate their divine responsibilities and they have chosen not to speak out, not act as Watchman, and not to speak prophetically to our nation.

This is nothing less than the most flagrant and disobedient violation of the duties assigned to them by their Creator and their Savior Jesus Christ. It is worse than a soldier going AWOL in a time of war, because it is being done by leadership whose words and actions can spare the lives of millions of people and whose neglect of duty can inflict immeasurable harm and even death upon millions of people.

This is an accurate understanding of how we have arrived in the place of grave danger in America. What now can be done? The Infinite Personal Living God of the Universe has built into our reality and peoples various safeguards in the event of such a failure. This is not the first time in history this kind of failure has happened. In the Old Testament there are numerous historical accounts of this kind of thing happening, and God has erected a kind of firewall.

Historically and Biblically, when God’s primary spiritual institutions fail through the disobedience of human leadership God always raises up new leadership, even if that leadership is numerically small. Secondly, God speaks to people through their consciences…that still small voice within.

At this moment, the Creator has placed such responsibility upon new leadership and upon those among the American people who profess to be His. They are now charged with the solemn responsibility of both listening to the Creator through His Word and obeying His directives, plan and commands. If those people will obey and act on the Creator’s directives, unmerited favour and grace will come upon them and the land. In this gravest of hours there is still the real hope of divine intervention, if it is sought sincerely.

At our nation’s founding, when George Washington found that he and his soldiers were completely exhausted, depleted, and in danger of being slaughtered by the British troops, he fell to his knees in prayer and sought the Creator for help and divine intervention. George Washington did not run to a church or seek to find a minister, because he was isolated at a freezing cold winter camp.

The Creator reached down to him directly and George Washington responded by crying out for His divine intervention, and he and his troops were spared and the Continental Army survived the winter at Valley Forge and even went on to defeat the Hessians at Trenton, New Jersey.

Individually, the American people are precisely where George Washington was when he fell to his knees. If we will turn from our illusion that there is no God and that we do not need Him, there is the real hope that, just like George Washington, we will discover both His power and reality in our time of need.

But as individuals we must also turn from the counsel and voices of deliberate deception that are coming to us from a deeply corrupt major media and some of the most powerful institutions and powerful people in this land.

If we continue to allow ourselves to be seduced by perfectly lit network television sets, media personalities whose faces are forever young through surgery and injections, designer suits and dresses, and verbally agile pretenders whose words do not ring with truth or substance, we will perish.

America is on the cliff of destruction and we have arrived at the final moment. Will we continue to move toward the Apocalypse or will we finally awaken? Although the election is important, what is happening is far bigger than individual politicians and parties.

William Wilberforce and Issues of Life

In this piece, Dr Joe Boot, Christian Concern’s Wilberforce Director, discusses William Wilberforce’s life, the claims of Scripture, and understanding the times we live in. 

The Word of God declares that “out of the heart spring the issues of life” (Prov. 4:23). In Scripture, the heart is the religious centre or religious root of the human personality. Therefore, human beings are religious by nature. That is to say, we are all worshipers of something. We either worship the living God, or some created thing takes the place of God in our lives. It is then in terms of that object of worship that people seek to know the full sense (meaning) of things.

People look in every direction to try and find some unity of meaning in their experience – some ultimate truth by which they can interpret and evaluate the “issues of life.” But when this is not done in terms of God and His Word- revelation, people are confronted with a serious problem from which there is no escape. The thoughts of man cannot find anything in temporal reality that can account for, and give meaning to, all created reality – only a transcendent personality is able to do that.

The Scriptures teach that the kind of total structuring-truth that man seeks about his life is not a  number of separate pieces of information, that can only be understood rationally by analyzing discrete ‘facts’ of experience.

Rather The Truth, the root unity of all meaning, is Jesus Christ; in His life and testimony (John 14:6). Jesus Christ reveals the order and structure of things: who we are, who God is, and the meaning of the whole creation. Fallen people do not simply ‘accept the facts’ as though they are self-interpreting; the evidence does not, in fact, speak for itself. Rather, we all interpret human experience in varying degrees of faithfulness to, or rebellion against, God’s creation and word-revelation.

The religious rebel against the living God arranges his data and invents his ideas so that he might feel safe without God – that is to say, outside of Christ man lives The Lie (Rom 1:25). Such a person’s goal is obviously not the knowledge and glory of God and his kingdom. Having cut himself off from The Truth, sinful man inevitably casts about for some other governing religious principle by any other name. As such, spiritual wandering and uprootedness is always characteristic of our anti-Christian age.

However, this characteristic of wandering and being divided in thought should not be descriptive of the Christian. William Wilberforce, one of the important founders of modern evangelicalism, once wrote,

The grand characteristic mark of the true Christian…is his desiring to please God in all his thoughts, and words and actions; to take the revealed Word to be the rule of his belief and practice; to let his light shine before men; and to in all things adorn the doctrine which he professes. [1]

In this statement we get a sense of the radical religious root unity that motivated this great man’s faithfulness. He had insight into the reality that his faith, by the Word of God, must direct every aspect of his life and thought. This driving motive gets to the core of what transforms the Christian who has grasped their true relation to God, His word, and their calling as His people in the world.

By contrast, in the unbelieving West today we have attained a level of apostasy from the Christian faith so radical that it has become self-conscious and evangelistic. We have, with eyes wide open, turned our backs on the faith that deeply influenced and nurtured the life and freedoms of Western nations for generations – and made us, by grace, a blessing to others.

That apostasy has spread to all sectors of society and revolutionized Western culture, from education and law, to politics, media and art. The late American scholar Evan Runnernoted in the latter third of the twentieth century:

We are called upon to live out our lives in dark and terrifying times. From the time of the French Revolution on, our days have been filled with mounting confusion on all sides, with revolutions and acts of violence that seem only to increase in tempo, in range and in intensity. For more and more people life appears to lack any meaning.

Even in the churches great numbers of people have accommodated themselves to secular ways of living and thinking, so that the power of Satan to deceive is mighty in the world. We can understand the words of Groen Van Prinsterer, who said: “Modern society, with all its excellences, having fallen into bondage to the theory of unbelief, is increasingly being seduced into a systematic denial of the living God.” [2]

The result of this systematic denial has been the steady moral neutering of several generations and, tragically, the casting adrift of the human personality, the heart of man.

It has led to the absolutization of the subjective feeling aspect of human experience so that now, in a malleable, plastic world, “I feel, therefore, I am.” We are being told there is no essential self; the human person and the human family are mere social constructs. We are only what we make and define ourselves to be in terms of a radical autonomy. [3]

Man is reduced to little more than mere artifice and is conceived of as bound by nothing outside or beyond him.

This radical relativism has gripped us to such a degree that to notice, or worse, to point out how created reality conflicts with anyone’s inner, personal fiction is seen as rhetorical violence or hatred. There is to be no judgment, except the condemnation of Christianity as the form of oppression that must be shaken off and disposed of.

For many years (at least until the 1960s), the cultural modus vivendi in the West was the attempt to retainmany of the outward forms and public morals bequeathed by Christianity, whilst subverting the central truth and power of the faith by denying the Lordship of Jesus Christ and authority of His word for the social order. This perspective was called secularism, and at best it was, for a season, moralistic. But, inevitably, it steadily disallowed the influence of scriptural truth in public life.

Now, secularism has logically given way to a more radical humanism in which a general recognition of, and grudging appreciation for, our Christian heritage has largely turned into a real loathing and hatred. Concurrently, overtly pagan forms of religious expression are privileged over, against the gospel. At the same time a humanistic political utopianism has supplanted the scriptural teaching of the kingdom of God. Because of all this we live in a time when the outlook appears, on its face, grim.

By this reflection, we are not driven to looking back with a naïve nostalgia to some imaginary past, where we once had an overtly and robustly Christian cultural order that was radically transformed by the gospel. Even in the West, such a clearly and consistently Christian culture is yet to be historically realized.

We might reasonably say that Western nations were profoundly influenced by Christianity, and have had broadly Christianized institutions. But certainly no one in the last four generations has ever lived in a Christian culture, and in the past our nations fell well short of a Christian culture, that clearly rejected attempts at a synthesis with humanistic religion – emanating from the philosophy of ancient Greece and Rome.

This is important to notice in response to those (and especially to misguided Christians) who, in the face of the challenges confronting us, would claim that we are living in a post-Christian age – and so we should abandon our efforts at gospel-cultural reformation in terms of Scripture and just accept that Christianity has lost the so-called ‘culture war’ – that we should recognise that we are, and will remain, just one among many reticent and humble applicants for religious accommodation. Such people miss what William Wilberforce well understood in his eschatological hopes for the success of the gospel, and what the theologian Loraine Boettner has pointed out:

[T]here has never yet been a truly Christian age, nor has so much as one nation ever been consistently Christian. The age in which we are living is still pre-Christian.

He continues,

That the progress of the church through these years has been slow is due to the fact that Christians in general have not taken seriously Christ’s command…. The Great Commission is addressed not merely to ministers and missionaries, but to all Christians everywhere…. The command applies to parents rearing their children, to children in regard to their parents, to individuals in whatever relationship they stand to their neighbors or business or social champions, to those who teach in the schools, to employers and employees in their mutual relationships, to writers, to newsmen, to statesmen, to Christians in general regardless of occupation or station in life. [4]

If it is true – I believe it is – that we are not in a post-Christian age, but a pre-Christian one, then world history is still moving toward the morning of gospel renewal, not falling off into the night of despair.

Jesus Christ is Lord; He governs history and calls His people to be more than conquerors through Him, making disciples of the nations by faith and obedience. A pre-Christian age means difficult times – when people’s hearts may fail them for fear, but history awaits faithful men and women, enlivened by the Word-revelation of God and filled with His Spirit, who will go to battle for His glory as Christ makes darkness flee away.

To face our times with courage, we must recover an applied faith for all of life. May God grant us such faithfulness that we would be gripped by the radical and transforming power of the Word of God in our lives, and rediscover, by the unfolding of that Word by the Spirit, our calling as a redeemed royal priesthood in Jesus Christ. The great question every Christian must grapple with in our time, is that of the relation of the powerful Word-revelation of God to our life in the world. The answer that we arrive at will determine the course of our nation’s future.

The Founders and Democracy

Historians tell us that America is the only country in the modern world founded by believers in Jesus Christ who made a covenant with God by dedicating this nation to Jesus Christ. These Puritans and Pilgrims as they are famously known intended to create a nation governed by God’s laws. They were theologically minded and prefered to apply their biblical worldview to every sphere of society.

So the whole concept of government that would later be proclaimed by John Locke and others, which placed the sovereignty in the hands of the people and which found the origin of government in a human compact, was utterly unknown to the Pilgrims.

They did not believe in a government by the people; they sensed that in the democratic philosophy, with its emphasis upon the sovereignty of the people, lay a fundamental contradiction to the biblical doctrine of the sovereignty of God. They clearly perceived that democracy was the fruit of humanism and not the reformation concept.

And when the constitutional framers gave America a republic they thought a republic was designed to be a lasting and permanent form of government.

The Founders envisioned America as a system in which the supreme power would reside in a body of citizens entitled to vote representatives responsible and governing them according to the law.

For example, in 1787, when Benjamin Franklin left the Constitutional Convention, he was asked by a woman named Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia, “Sir, What have you given us?” His immediate response was, “A republic, Mum, if you can keep it.” He said this because certain inalienable rights granted by the Creator (life, liberty, and property) would be protected by law; therefore, government was simply man’s agent for the protection of God’s good gifts.

A good number of these early statesmen knew that a democracy was only a temporary and transitional form of government that was on the way to a total government or totalitarianism. They developed democratic principles but not a majority-rule kind of democracy.

John Winthrop (1588–1649), the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay colony, declared democracy to be the meanest and worst of all forms of government. John Cotton (1584–1652), an English clergyman and colonist, wrote in 1636, “Democracy, I do not conceive that ever God did ordain as a fit government either for church or commonwealth. If the people be governors, who shall be governed?”

John Adams, the second president of the United States, is reported to have reminded Virginia legislator John Taylor, “Remember, a democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.” He is also quoted to have said, “The voice of the people is sometimes the voice of Mahomet, of Caesar, of Catiline, the Pope, and the devil.”

And according to Thomas Jefferson, “A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.” James Madison also wrote much the same thing: “Democracies are spectacles of turbulence and contention. Pure democracies are incompatible with personal security or the rights of property…. In general they have been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.”

Britain’s first labour prime minister and three-time prime minister of England, J. Ramsay McDonald, was a Christian who was a product of the evangelical revival whom God had raised up to a position of leadership.

He found the materialistic, economic determinism, class hatred, and atheism of Karl Marx’s doctrine to be quite repulsive, and he strongly advocated for Christian principles in Parliament. It has been reported that when he was prime minister he went so far as to say that he believed that democracy itself—true democracy—had its source in the eighteenth-century revival; that vital Christianity was indeed its very foundation; and that without Christianity, democracy is doomed to perish.

Yes, we should democratically vote and participate in civil affairs but our ultimate hope and trust should be in the Lord Jesus Christ Who is Lord of every sphere of life Who charges all people everywhere to repent (to change their minds for the better and heartily to amend their ways, with abhorrence of their past sins), Because He has fixed a day when He will judge the world righteously (justly) by a Man Jesus Christ Whom He has destined and appointed for that task, and He has made this credible and given conviction and assurance and evidence to everyone by raising Him from the dead. (See Acts 17:26-31)

Dutch Prime Minister 1901-1905, Abraham Kuyper (1837–1920), famously said,

Oh, no single piece of our mental world is to be hermetically sealed off the rest, and there is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: This is Mine! God continually recreates the universe through acts of grace. God’s acts are necessary to ensure the continued existence of creation. Without His direct activity creation would self-destruct.

Although many of the arguments of the constitutional framers rested on the power of a constitutional republic, it was not a Christian government and could not work because it was fashioned according to Roman civil law and relied on the integrity of one person whose deciding vote has often been in contempt of God’s morality. Even the much more admired republic was shoved aside and Americans have almost given up these principles completely. America is now considered a socialist democracy.

Democracy without the lordship of Christ will never sustain a civilization. It is simply another form of tyranny, where the majority frequently deprive the minority through the institution of unjust laws. We’ve now declared that the only legitimate form of government is a democracy—which means man is a god and we cannot have the God Who created us to rule over us.

We can do whatever we want and everything is permitted under a democracy. If you think this is an extreme statement, just remember Hitler came to power democratically. Abortion, gay marriage, eugenics, and other deplorable things in the West have happened under democratic means as well.
